This is definitely a family-oriented dinner show and it has won the applause of kids, parents and theater critics alike.

The show has been designed for grownups and kids and uses dazzling special effects and lots of sword fights, aerial acrobatics in a fast moving story of the “good guys” overcoming the “bad guys.” You get action, adventure, comedy and romance all wrapped up in one show. In addition, you will not be a passive spectator as the dinner guests are swept into the action.

That’s right, every night many of the guests get to wear pirate costumes and become part of the show. The setting of the show is quite spectacular. Right in the middle of this theater you will find a full scale replica of an 18th Century Spanish ship floating in a 300,000 gallon lagoon. The masts tower 50 and 70 feet, and the theater-in-the-round design accommodates up to 825 “voyagers” in tiered seating.

The setting and the action of the show are already interesting enough to make it a worthwhile outing, but don’t forget you will also be getting a good dinner consisting of appetizers and salad, a main course (marinated chicken, pork, shrimp or lobster), West Indies rice with Caribbean seasonings and steamed vegetables. Apple cobber a la mode makes a nice dessert, and you will also be treated to Caribbean coffees, beer and soft drinks. If you are a vegetarian, don’t worry, they have a vegetarian option. And they also have kid-sized meals as well.

When the show is ended you also will get a chance to meet and greet all the performers. It is a great opportunity to get autographs and take photos with the actors and actresses. If you stay till the last show there is a free “Buccaneer Bash Dance Party.” This dance party features a DJ with a sound and special effects system. You will dance to a wide selection of music ranging from classic pop to current hits.

San Jose, the only one that offers many attractions. Come to town for a concert in Mountain View Ampitheter. The Winchester Mystery House is the only worth the visit. However, do not drive! You can get a taxi from the airport or the Caltrain station. The attractions are spread over a wide area in the city of South Bay, a taxi can reach any destination with ease and speed. Yosemite is best known for its waterfalls and the largest of these is the Upper Yosemite Falls at 1430 feet. The waterfall is the most powerful during the spring months when it can be heard thundering throughout the valley. Aye! In 1879 Robert Louis Stevenson visited the Pt Lobos area (near Carmel, California) and was so inspired by the beauty of the landscape that he used it as the setting for his story of adventure, treachery and blatant skullduggery.

The original name of Pt Lobos was Punta de los Lobos Marinos, named for the California sea lion often seen (and heard!) on the offshore islands. The area is unique because just offshore the ocean floor drops and gives rise to unusual tidal effects with high levels of oxygen in the water; this attracts a variety of plant and animal life ranging from high plankton concentrations to mammals. The area was established as a state park in 1933, and currently is a state reserve containing almost 400 land acres and 750 underwater acres which in 1992 became part of the Monterey Bay National Marine sanctuary.

Hollywood discovered Pt. Lobos early in the century. The first movie filmed here was “Valley of the Moon” directed by Hobart Bosworth in 1914 followed by another fifty-five films “shot” here and in the immediate environs including Victor Fleming’s “Treasure Island” in 1934, Hitchcock’s “Rebeccah” in 1940 and Minelli’s “The Sandpiper” in 1964.

As Robert Louis Stevenson wrote in his novel, “I have never seen the sea quiet round Treasure Island. The sun might blaze overhead, the air be without a breath, the surface smooth and blue, but still these great rollers would be running along all the external coast, thundering and thundering by day and night; and I scarce believe there is one spot in the island where a man would be out of earshot of their noise”.

Take the kids and camp, hike the area, take a few photos, and save a little money to boot. And if you listen carefully, maybe you’ll hear a sea chantey or two.
