Though Cancun is known primarily as a luxury travel destination - home to plush resorts, scenic beaches and all forms of entertainment - the city's ideal placement amongst the rugged and diverse Yucatan Peninsula has also allowed this Caribbean hotspot to serve as one of the world's top recreation destinations. After gaining popularity as a world-class recreation and ecotourism destination in recent years, the city of Cancun was granted the prestigious honor of hosting one of the Ironman tour's premier 70.3-mile triathlon events. In addition to serving as a qualifying event for the Ironman World Championship, the Cancun Ironman 70.3 offers visitors an opportunity to see some of the world's top athletes with an awe-inspiring natural backdrop. The Cancun Ironman 70.3 competition will be staged this year on September 20.

The 1.2-mile swimming leg of the Cancun Ironman 70.3 takes place at Nizuc Beach, a exotic stretch of sand located at the southern end of the Hotel Zone. Though set just a short distance from many of Cancun's top resorts, Nizuc Beach feels like a secluded destination, as the calm water is protected by the southern tip of the peninsula and the beach is bordered by a patch of lush jungle. Both during the event and throughout the year, the water offshore from Nizuc Beach usually tops 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Ironman competitors swim a looped course that is both close to the shore and marked off with buoys, allowing spectators to easily enjoy the race. Though not one of Cancun's most popular beaches, Nizuc Beach also offers an intriguing year-round destination for those hoping to experience the natural diversity of the Mayan Riviera without leaving the convenient Hotel Zone.

After completing the swim, competitors move on to the biking leg, a 56-mile trip that follows Kukulcan Boulevard through the hotel zone towards the Cancun Airport and Playa del Carmen. As many sections of the course are closed to vehicle traffic during the event, spectators can enjoy front-row views of the race near many of the top resorts. After traveling through the Hotel Zone, the bike course approaches the Cancun-Merida highway where spectators can find several more comfortable vantage points, especially near the repair and refreshment tents. Along the segments of the course outside of the Hotel Zone, both competitors and spectators will also be greeted with superb views of the Caribbean Sea and Cancun's famous white-sand beaches.

The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon closes with a 13.1-mile run along Kukulcan Boulevard. As the course is closed to vehicle traffic much like the bike race, the half-marathon offers another excellent opportunity for visitors to witness some of the world's best athletes in the heat of competition. Known not only on the Ironman circuit, but throughout the running world, as "the most beautiful half-marathon in the world," the race has become a highly anticipated event in Cancun, visited by locals and tourists alike. The race starts up the Caribbean side of Kukulcan Boulevard, offering views of the luxurious Hotel Zone and the sparkling blue Caribbean Sea. On the return route, the course passes within short distance of the peninsula's famous Mayan ruins, while hugging the picturesque Nichupte Lagoon and the Mexican mainland. Though the Ironman event brings this incredibly scenic route into sharper focus for some visitors, these sights can be enjoyed every day of the year by tourists staying in Cancun's Hotel Zone.

Though only in its fourth season, the Cancun Ironman 70.3 has already become one of the city's most popular events. While spectators will be granted an exciting opportunity to witness a world-class sporting event amongst incredible scenery, travelers visiting Cancun later in the tourism season can also retrace some of the triathlon's scenic route by taking a dip off Nizuc Beach or walking Kukulcan Boulevard - site of the half-marathon and portions of the bike race - through the heart of the Hotel Zone.

Responsible travel is a bit like The Big Bang; most people believe in it but can’t always explain it! Well, while I don’t know much about the origins of the universe, I can certainly shed some light on what responsible travel’s all about and a few ways of being a responsible traveller, especially while on your gap year.

Firstly, to nail my colours to the mast, I believe in responsible travel. I believe both in its ability to provide unforgettable travel experiences and its power to reshape the travel industry. Responsible travel is challenging the idea that the only way to see the world is through the hotel window or the tour bus. Real travel is about learning and exploring, rather than just kicking back and getting a tan.

What isn’t responsible travel?

Low-cost airlines are flying to more and more distant places, making travel more easily accessible. The downside of this is that it risks flooding the planet with aimless tourists. In the rush to tick off another place on their personal travel maps, many people think very little about their impact on the world. While individually this doesn’t seem like such a disaster, the unintended consequences of mass tourism include countless stories of small businesses overpowered by large chains and massive ecological damage. If people are going to travel in such great numbers, it’s imperative that they do so responsibly.

The responsible way

People’s determination to protect the world is the driving force behind responsible travel. Such is the power of international tourism that it actually holds a great potential for change. If we can harness the love people have for travelling then we can direct it towards protecting the world rather than just travelling around it.

Responsible travel is about minimising the effect of travel while at the same time maximising the travel experience. The great thing is that they both reinforce each other; the more time you take to learn about and respect the world around you, the more fulfilling your experience of travel will be.

Environment

Protecting the environment is perhaps the area most commonly associated with responsible travel. The constant announcements of more species becoming endangered and more natural habitats becoming threatened has galvanised the travel community and led to the creation of a huge number of volunteer projects. At its core, responsible travel minimises negative environmental impacts and in the case of these projects also makes positive contributions to the conservation of the environment.

People

Finding ways to help people in a sustainable way is far more preferable than simply throwing money at the problem. For example, volunteering abroad enables travellers to help local communities, without having to worry about the issue of aid reliance. What’s more, travelling to an area and using local accommodation, local food producers and buying locally sourced products provides a sustainable income to the people. The influx of tourists also gives the community a reason to protect the beauty and diversity of their home.

Culture

Travel is only responsible when it respects the culture and traditions of different people. This connection between host and tourist is at the basis of everything that the responsible travel movement stands for. Without it, what chance is there that people will take the time to buy local products, use local services and think about their impact on the environment? This respects sits at the heart of truly responsible travelling.

Top Tips for Responsible Travellers

Travellers can offset their carbon emissions at Climate Care. Enter flight details and you can find out how much it will cost to offset your flight and donate the money to sustainable energy projects.

Don’t buy souvenirs if you think their production has been at an environmental or human cost; watch out especially for items made from ivory and bone.

Be aware of energy shortages and adjust your habits accordingly. A shorter shower won’t kill you.

Try and stay in local accommodation rather than in that big glitzy hotel. Even better, stay in homestay accommodation with a local family

Respect the local customs and culture, and make sure you act and dress appropriately.

Try and make at least one positive difference before you leave; it makes travelling so much more enjoyable for everybody. Volunteer projects are obviously the easiest way to do this.

Here is our guide to my favourite three London hotels. These aren’t based on the best service, the cheapest or most luxurious but a list on the best hotels to stay at for the experience. There is a mix of luxury, budget, futuristic and cheerful hotels.

London is certainly an expensive place to go to with London hotel prices being no exception. However you can still enjoy luxury on a budget with this first choice.

1. The Hoxton

The target market for this hotel is business travellers who want affordable luxury rooms for the night as well as those on holiday who want a comfortable hotel room close to the city centre. Situated in London’s Square Mile gives those on their holidays close to the big attractions such as the Tower of London.

When you make it to the room you will find a stylish designed room complete with beautiful bed linen and flat-screen TVs. Understanding that the man behind Pret a Manger created The Hoxton will help you to understand what to expect at the hotel.

Next is a very cool form of accommodation, it is definitely one of the best and most unique available.

2. The Yotels – Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport

The second of the London hotels are actually called Yotels and are rather futuristic. They basically are cabins based on first class accommodation on an aeroplane and are based in airports to give tired business people or those on an overnight stay somewhere to stay for an early morning flight or to save them heading into the city centre. They can also be booked in four hours sessions so can be used for power napping.

Each cabin features a shower, storage space and entertainment wall with music and DVD player, wi-fi and wired internet and a desk to carry on with important work.

3. Guesthouse West

This London hotel comes with a difference in that you have the option to pay in the normal way, per night for a room or you can invest in a room, so if you think you will be there regularly you can use the London hotel room for up to 52 days and receive a rental income for the remainder of the time when it is occupied. Prices start from around £180 per night but these rooms are certainly luxurious with en suite, internet, flat screens and beautiful décor.

There are plenty of choice and variety to be had when choosing London hotels , going for one of the above will certainly leave you with a smile in the morning.

Therefore, one of the important aspects of communication safety, while operating an airborne aircraft, is the aviation headsets that are utilized. Consequently, it is important to know how to buy an aviation headset and what sort of factors to look at before the purchase of the aviation headset.

How To Buy An Aviation Headset

One of the most important features to consider when considering the purchase of an aviation headset is to determine how the headset feels and fits when properly placed on the pilot’s head. Specifically, when placed on the head and fitted over the ears it is important to given attention to comfort. Questions to ask include the feel of the headphones and whether they give a sense of being a quality pilot supply or do they feel “cheap.”

Additionally, it is important, prior to purchase, to wear the headset for a period of time. This is measure is important to take because the pilot will be wearing the headset as long as the aircraft is airborne. Therefore, it is important to keep the headset on for a minimum amount of time to make sure that the fit remains comfortable and reflects the extended time while airborne so that the comfort level remains the same. A good rule of thumb is to wear the headset for at least a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes in order to get a good feel of the headset being utilized for a longer period of time.

Active Noise Reduction

Also, when in the market for an aviation headset it is important to consider a number of features that are critical as well as those that may be convenient. As far as critical features are concerned, it is important to consider a quality aviation headset that has a significant active noise reduction level. Generally, these levels are measured in dB which stands for decibels. Obviously, the higher the dB level the greater the noise reduction.

In addition, there are three specific reasons why an aviator will want to purchase a aviation headset that utilizes an active noise reduction system.

The first reason is that it will help to reduce or minimize the ongoing sounds that bombard the aviator’s ears. Specifically, those ongoing sounds include the drone of the airplane engine or noise of the propellers.

Additionally, an active noise reduction feature will allow the pilot to concentrate better on flying the plane and attending to the safety of flying and landing their aircraft.

Also, the use of an active noise reduction process helps the pilot to be attuned to noises that may signal a mechanical difficulty or a problem with the landing gear. Specifically, an active noise reduction system filters out specific noise decibels and allows the pilot to be more attentive to unusual sounds that might be heard.

The airlines changed over their line up of flights for the winter just a few weeks ago so in this article I hope to offer you for the best value locations to head to if you want to get away for some winter sun this year, cheap holidays abroad.

I suppose cheap holidays abroad can mean different things for different people so will try to include a range of choice. The Maldives is a location that jumped out of the offerings with non-stop flights now being offered to the Maldivian capital of Mule. Previously you had to make a stop off in the Middle East however a journey there will be hours shorter now, making the Maldives a much attractive destination. Holiday packages make the overall holiday not that expensive for such an amazing location. The Maldives features an amazing group of islands with the waters full of colourful marine life.

The Dominican Republic is also another location getting more coverage, the increasing number of flights should help bring down flight prices again as with the Maldives package holidays on offer are at reasonable prices, whether you would call it a cheap holiday abroad depends on your circumstances however have a look at the next entry for definite cheap holidays abroad.

The Dominican Republic has the beautiful Punta Cana beaches and the location is currently redesigning itself with fantastic small scale properties and fantastic all-inclusive complexes as it attempts to rid itself of the reputation of a dodgy hotel food and mass market place.

Now would be the time to go to Las Vegas as hotel prices there are absolute bargains you can stay in luxury five star hotels on the strip for less than £100! That is how badly Las Vegas has been hit by the recession, however the upside is it is good for visitors. More competition on direct flights this winter should mean flights will come down. Great value deals will be available if you fancy enjoying the high life this winter time. Definitely one of the Cheap holidays abroad this winter.

With a very weak pound your money will go furthest and you will get cheap holidays abroad from locations that use the euro currency. Las Vegas is looking good now although the dollar has risen in value recently also.

With eight of the world's ten highest mountains located in the North of Nepal, trekking in this region may seem a particularly daunting prospect. But you do not have to scale Everest or reach the peaks of the Himalayas in order to experience the rich diversity or the beautiful scenery of this country. Venture into the terraced hillsides of the Annapurnas, and you will wonder at the valleys beneath and the snow-capped mountains above. But after a hard day's trekking you will need somewhere to rest your weary limbs; though you may be immersed in breathtaking landscape and wildlife by day, you will not have to brave the elements by night.

Camping takes on a whole new feeling of decadence as you emerge from your tent to a fantastic view of the Himalayas in the morning sunlight. Memories of the wet canvas and soggy grass of European camping trips gone by will soon be forgotten as you're greeted with a cup of tea and a bowl of warm water. In the meantime, your breakfast will be cooked for you as you pack your day bag and prepare yourself for the trek ahead. Porters will follow with the rest of your belongings, allowing you to continue unburdened. This is the closest you will get to nature in Nepal, and sleeping under the stars gives you a chance to really appreciate the splendour of your surroundings.

To really experience Nepal, an overnight stay in a classic Nepali tea hut is a must; a combination of guest house, restaurant and social area, tea huts are renowned for their friendly atmospheres and sensational views. Slightly simpler than a hotel, facilities include single rooms, running hot water, and often a dinner of traditional dish, Dal Bhat, (rice and lentil soup) that gives you a real taste of Nepal. Trekking will be a breeze following a square meal and a good night's sleep.

Located in Sauraha, just outside the Chitwan National Park, the Rhino Residency Resort adds an extraordinary element to your stay in Nepal. Trekking can be postponed for a day whilst you enjoy the resort, which is home to over 524 species of birds, the great asian one-horned rhinoceros, the Bengal tiger and many other smaller mammals. Beautiful gardens adorned with hammocks and a swimming pool can either repair the aches sustained, or refresh you in time for the next instalment of trekking. Nepal is brought to you on a plate in the resort's restaurant, serving various continental cuisine and beverages. Soak up the luxury of the resort, but don't forget the exciting Chitwan National Park is on your doorstep!

So, if you are used to the luxuries of a hotel while you are on holiday, take this opportunity to experience some of the more adventurous forms of accommodation that can be found around the Annapurnas. Your Nepal trekking adventure will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery around, but an open mind to accommodation will ensure that you don't miss any of the tradition and culture that the region has to offer.

Traveling insurance is something that is as important as the tickets that you cut to your destination. There are many people who undermine the importance of travel insurance. But it is also a fact that numerous individuals have suffered immensely because of not having travel insurance. In order to ensure that you do not ruin your entire trip and repent later, it is best to find out all about travel insurance and getting it done.

Why do you need Travel Insurance?

There are many things that can suddenly happen, leaving you in dire straits. In case of emergency situations and unexpected circumstances, you should always have travel insurance to fall back on. Have you ever imagined what would happen if a planned trip gets cancelled or the airline you were planning to fly with goes bankrupt? These are situations that are, indeed, unlikely. But at the same time, they are not impossible. As the old saying goes, it is always better to be safe than sorry. So getting travel insurance is a very good idea.

Even in cases like loss of luggage, having travel insurance ensures that you get replacements for what was lost. When you are traveling to another country, you must find out whether normal insurance will grant you cover in that country or not. It often happens that the insurance you have is not accepted in the country you go to. If this is the case, and there is some medical emergency, you will face a lot of problems in a completely foreign land. This is where travel insurance steps in. It guarantees you cover even in medical emergencies.

How does Travel Insurance help you?

Travel insurance is a great friend in need. Even if you fall ill and cannot travel, you can rest assured about getting your money back, thanks to travel insurance.

The whole point of insurance is to guard you from unprecedented trouble. Life is uncertain. There is no way in which we can tell what is about to happen even in the very next moment. Thus, it is best not to take chances and make proper arrangements so that when you land up in trouble, you have something to fall back on. Travel insurance is very important because it provides a buffer for you in case anything goes wrong. It is especially important because when you are in a foreign land, you are at a greater risk because your familiarity with the place is low.

How will you Choose your Insurance Plan?

Once you understand the importance of travel insurance, you should take it seriously and start conducting basic research about the companies that offer travel insurance. There are numerous companies that do so and you just need to find out which one suits your needs best. One factor that is very important in your decision is your frequency of travel. The insurance needs of a regular traveler are completely different from the requirements of a family going on a vacation. So before you finally zero in on a particular policy, you should make it a point to carefully consider all your options.

How do you wake up in the morning? Does an alarm ring in your ear at 7am telling you to get up and get ready for work? Or do you just know that you need to be in the office by 830am and you naturally wake up at 7am? For many people this is how they start their day. However, I wake up and get out of bed when I feel ready. I am in no rush. Yes, I work and I have a job. I am an English teacher in Taiwan and that is how I start my day.

I am not a morning person. I don't hate the mornings, but I hate waking up thinking I have to be somewhere by 9am. I prefer to go at my own pace. Being a teacher here in Taiwan allows me to do that. I start work usually in the afternoons and I finish at nights. That kind of schedule isn't for everyone, but if you aren't a morning person and find that you get more done at nights, then it could be just what you are looking for. Having afternoon classes allows me the freedom to do what I want during the day. This could be just sitting and drinking coffee or maybe exploring the Chinese food and culture. Teaching in Taiwan gives you that opportunity to free up most of your day to do things you want to do.

Another great thing about being an English teacher in Taiwan is that for the most part my work is relatively stress free. I am not a sales person. I don't like to push people into buying something I know they don't want. It is probably this that lead me to teaching in the first place. At work, I am relatively free to do what I want. I know my job and I know what I need to do. As long as I do it I am left alone. If you are sick of sitting in a cubicle and having your boss walk past every few minutes, this change of work place environment might be what you are looking for.

Teaching English in Taiwan isn't for everyone. Just like any job, it might not be something you are really interested in. However, if you are looking for a way to earn some money while still having enough time to pursue your personal interests then being an English teacher in Taiwan could be what you are looking for.
